Languages and Culture

European Studies is fully taught in English. This should prepare you even better for the international labour market, as well as offer you an international learning environment and facilitate a possible transfer to an interesting Master's degree programme abroad.

A solid knowledge of several languages is essential for a European professional. This is why you will study two European languages during the first two years of the programme, in addition to the mandatory English course. As your first and second language you can choose two out of the following languages: French, German, Spanish or Dutch (only for non-Dutch students). If you choose Spanish or Dutch as your second language, no prior knowledge of the language is required.

The language training has a practical, hands-on approach. After completing the European Studies programme you will be able to express yourself fluently, both orally and in writing, in the languages that you have chosen. In addition, every language course also covers the culture of these areas. There is a great difference when doing business with a Frenchman or negotiating with an Englishman, as you may know.

Students can take the DELF exam for French in year 2, the Goethe exam for German in year 3, the DELE exam for Spanish in year 2 and the IELTS exam for English in year 4.
