International semesters

Study abroad
In their third year of studies, all students of European Studies participate in an international study exchange at one of our many partner universities abroad. This study abroad semester greatly contributes to the international orientation that our graduates develop.

In order to enable you to take part in these exchanges, Zuyd University of Applied Sciences has signed many bilateral agreements with partner universities all over the world: in Europe (Erasmus and Socrates), in the USA and Mexico (Magellan) and other countries like Canada and New Zealand. As a result of these agreements, students can study abroad without paying extra tuition fees to the foreign university. Please click here for a list of our exchange partners for European Studies and here for a list of our exchange partners through the Magallan network.

Courses are chosen by the students and approved by the head of the department and the exam board (on the basis of a learning agreement). The courses should have a link to the specialisation chosen. Credits obtained abroad are recognized and transferred to the European Studies programme. The European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) guarantees a smooth transfer process.

In the fourth and final year of the study programme, the students of European Studies are to take part in an international internship, preferably abroad. You will work in a company or organisation and will have a supervisor both from the company as well from Studies. In principle you will have to do research for your internship provider, however, you may have an exemption if you have already shown you meet the research competency.

The internship should have an international dimension and should by preference take place abroad. Students of European Studies have worked for i.e. the Euregion Meuse Rhine, The European Journalism Center, NethER, Bosch Brussels, Maastricht University, the European Parliament, the police, Michael Page, NATO, IBM, DSM, The Disney Company, Vogue and many other organisations.

If your company or institution would like to offer an internship to one of our fourth-year students, please contact the Internship Office of the European Studies Department This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
